Coach Mike Davis is a native Floridian with 20+ years of experience in physical fitness and health training. He attributes his coaching style and wealth of knowledge to the guidance of many great mentors from all walks of life, as well as his willingness to go against the grain and think outside the box.

It is Mike’s mission to continuously develop and evolve training systems for the modern day professional. The training programs in Hybrid Strength Club promote healing, increase body functionality and develop physical and mental durability, leading to a better quality of life for each student.

EARLY YEARS

Coach Mike Davis started his journey in strength development early in life. At the age of 8, he started sneaking into his family’s garage to curl their old steel barbells in order to get strong enough to beat his stepdad at arm wrestling (which he finally accomplished at age 12). At 13, Mike was too young to work out in the weight room at Gainesville’s local YMCA, so he snuck in the back door to lift weights with the local football teams. Mike was always vigilant in his pursuit of fitness and since those early days, his passion for optimizing the human body has only grown.

From training as a teenager at the Y, Mike worked his way from the ground up in the personal training profession – starting at a “floor tech” at Gold’s Gym to training with Olympic and Strongmen powerhouses. He found himself under the wing of several gym owners and Olympic trainers, with whom he spent countless hours learning and honing his fitness abilities.

A Trainer in the Making

In 2002, Mike moved to Sarasota, Florida where he settled down and became a Personal Trainer at the Southside Athletic Club. It was here that Mike learned how to package his years of knowledge into a teachable, shareable program for his students. When Lifestyle Family Fitness (LFF) acquired Southside in 2005, Mike found himself surrounded by pioneers and leaders of the Personal Training Industry. After proving himself as a trainer, Coach Davis went on to build the most successful personal training team that location had ever seen. The successes continued and Mike was promoted from District Manager to Vice President of Personal Training. He had the opportunity to coach and develop literally hundreds of trainers, developing robust teams of personal trainers and earning numerous awards for his accomplishments.

Hybrid Strength Club

In 2012, LFF sold to LA Fitness and Mike took the opportunity to act on his life-long dream of starting his own gym and creating his own training system. Coach Davis went back to his roots of private training. He called up a few of his former clients, started coaching them in his garage and Hybrid Strength Club was born. Initially inspired by the Crossfit training program, Mike used his 20+ years of experience to create a system that incorporates aspects from different health and fitness modalities including gymnastics, weightlifting, martial arts, dance, yoga, meditation, and more.

Mike’s Hybrid System promotes strength, postural correction and healing for the modern day professional. It is focused on the core principles of human physiology while simultaneously building longevity. His methodology and teachings reach his students inside and outside of the gym, creating lasting, lifelong benefits.
